The HSC at Fort Worth Center for Academic Performance is proud to offer low-cost summer workshops for incoming PA students. Not only will you have the opportunity to refresh your knowledge in these in-person workshops, but you will also have the opportunity to meet new classmates, learn new concepts, and be exposed to the curriculum teaching/learning style. The facts and study tips presented will be “high yield” and designed to help you succeed in the classroom.


Summer 2024 Workshops

Registration Details:

  • Opens: April 1, 2024, at 8:00 AM (Central Time)
  • Closes: July 20, 2024, at 5:00 PM (Central Time)
  • Payment must be submitted online when you register for the workshop (Visa, MasterCard, & Discover).
  • After payment is received, you will receive a confirmation email within five (5) business days.

Physiology Workshop

July 30th – August 1st; 8:00am – Noon

Cost: $95

Details: This workshop aims to introduce fundamental principles of physiology for students prior to PA Study Program. It facilitates students to study how our systems are integrated to regulate homeostasis under physiological states. Students are expected to understand basic concepts and terminologies of cardiovascular function, respiratory physiology, renal function, digestive physiology, and skeletal muscle physiology, and neuro-humoral control of functions of those systems.

 

Anatomy Workshop

July 30th – August 1st; 1:00pm – 5:00pm

Cost: $100

Details: This workshop is structured to introduce the basic concepts of anatomy and is designed for incoming students with little or no previous cadaver-based anatomical experiences. Students will participate in discussions with faculty and former anatomy students on the “best approach” to study anatomy, learn anatomical terminology, and experience a sample exam that models the presentation of difficult anatomical concepts. Students will begin to discover the organ systems through the study of skeletal material and previously dissected human organs, and whole cadavers. The workshop will include time in the gross anatomy laboratory studying human cadavers and will emphasize laboratory safety as well as lab study strategies.

FAQs

Will I receive a confirmation email when I register?

Yes, you will receive 2 confirmation emails. The first will be a receipt for you purchase. The second will come from the CAP office 3-5 business days after you register and will include additional details along with a survey to complete.

Is there a limit to how many students can register for the workshop?

Registration is a first-come first-served process.  All workshops are capped at 160 registrants. Once we reach the registration cap, we will add students to a wait list. Payment and registration must be complete by the end of the registration date. We encourage you to register and pay as soon as you can to secure a place in a workshop.

Do I have to register for both workshops at the same time?

No, you do not have to register for both workshops at the same time. If you register for one and then decide to register for another, go to the registration link and complete the form for the additional workshop.

Does this workshop count for course credit?

No. This workshop is designed and taught by current students to help incoming students get ahead.

What is the attire for the workshops?

Attire is casual, but remember that you are in a professional setting. If you register for an anatomy workshop, you must wear close toed shoes. Additional information may be provided depending on your workshop.

Do I need to bring any supplies for the workshop?

Workshop content will be provided on Canvas. We recommend that you bring your laptop to the workshop(s) to follow along with any content provided. If you do not have a computer to bring, please contact the CAP office and we will print any written content for you.

Will there be access to the internet?

Yes, you will be provided wireless access to the internet for the duration of the workshop.

When will I get access to the workshop materials?

Canvas access will be granted to all registrants the Friday prior to the workshop. You will receive an email when the Pre-Matriculation Canvas course is open.

Do I have to attend the entire workshop?

No and yes. No, you do not have to attend the entire workshop, but you do have to pay the full price. However, there may be required presentations or lectures you must attend in order to participate in other elements of the workshop (i.e. anatomy lab). If you need to leave early or miss a day, we recommend that you inform CAP in case you are going to miss any required elements.

Can I request a refund?

Yes, you may request a refund. Refund requests must be received by the registration deadline date listed above. Request a refund.

Will meals be provided?

Meals are not provided during the workshop. There are 2 cafes on campus where you can purchase food and there are also restaurants close by if you prefer. You are also welcome to bring your own food, but refrigerators and microwaves are not available.

Can I request accommodations for the workshop?

Yes, you can receive accommodations for a disability or temporary medical condition for the workshop. If you are not sure whether you will need accommodations or not, feel free to reach out to the CAP office at CAP@unthsc.edu.

Do I have to pay for parking?

No, you do not have to pay for parking. You will receive an email closer to the date of your workshop informing you of which lots you will be able to park in.
