June 20, 2024 • CHP News
What drew you to HSC and why did you accept a faculty position here?
I completed my PhD at HSC in the College of Biomedical and Translational Sciences in December 2022. I was excited to rejoin HSC as a faculty member for multiple reasons – the fun area, ability to teach and mentor students, and friendly people!
What have you enjoyed most about your time here so far?
I’ve enjoyed reconnecting with my mentors who are now colleagues, teaching and interacting with students, and the warm welcome from faculty and staff in my department.
Starting out as a new faculty member at HSC, what are your goals and what do you hope to accomplish during your time here?
I’m excited to start my own lab that continues my clinical research in people with limb loss and difference, as well as grow research activities within the PT department and entire College of Health Professions. I also look forward to helping bridge the College of Biomedical and Translational Sciences and College of Health Professions through my secondary appointment in the Physiology and Anatomy Department. I hope to have an interdisciplinary lab that fosters collaboration across the wide variety of professions and programs at HSC, as well as my clinical background as a Certified Prosthetist and Orthotist.
What is something you would like for students or fellow faculty members to know about you?
I met my husband at HSC during my PhD program, and we just celebrated our 4th anniversary. We have two dogs, enjoy traveling, and love spending time outdoors/working out.
What are you reading or listening to right now?
I’m a science fiction nerd, so I’m reading the Three-Body Problem trilogy by Liu Cixin (recently on Netflix) and listening to the audiobook of A Stitch in Time (Star Trek). Several students recently convinced me to put Dune on my list.
