The University of North Texas Health Science Center at Fort Worth RN to BSN is a 30-credit-hour course of study leading to a BSN degree with full-time and part-time options. Important dates for applying to be a student in our Spring and Fall 2025 enrollment:

  • Spring 2025 Opens Aug 8, 2024, and closes Nov 1, 2024.
  • Fall 2025 Opens Nov 1, 2024, and closes June 1, 2025.
  • Applications must be received by 11:59 p.m. ET (10:59 p.m. CTI). 
  • Supplemental documents for Spring 2025 are due Nov 15, 2024.
  • Supplemental documents for Fall 2025 are due Mar 1, 2024.

Admissions Requirements

  • RN licensure (Submitted as part of NursingCAS) in a state or region that is approved through the National Council of State Boards of Nursing or evidence of an unencumbered RN licensure prior to graduation.
  • Completion of or enrollment in an associate degree in nursing (ADN, ASN) or diploma program from a regionally accredited institution.
  • Provisional or Conditional Admission may be granted in the following conditions:
    • Individuals who are actively enrolled in an ADN (Associate Degree in Nursing) or diploma program from a regionally accredited institution and are in good standing may receive provisional/conditional admissions to this program
    • Provisionally admitted students may enroll in up to six semester credit hours (SCH) in the RN to BSN program before completing ADN or diploma program and presenting evidence of passing the National Council Licensure Examination-Registered Nurse (NCLEX-RN). However, provisionally admitted students will not progress to any other BSN program courses within the College of Nursing without first passing the NCLEX-RN and obtaining an active, unencumbered registered nurse (RN) license in a state or region that is approved through the National Council of State Boards of Nursing.
  • Upon licensure as a registered nurse (and meeting all the other admission requirements), the student will receive unconditional admission to proceed in the program.
  • Out of state applications will be considered on a case-by-case basis and in accordance with the Board of Nursing regulations.
  • A minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5 in all prerequisite courses.
  • Favorable Criminal Background Check.
  • Negative Drug Screening. Accepted students are responsible for completing the drug screening and any associated financial costs.
  • Holistic Admission Assessment completion.
  • All applicants are required to submit two former faculty or employer references. (Submitted as part of NursingCAS)
  • Professional resume or Curriculum vitae (CV) (Submitted as part of NursingCAS).
  • Official transcripts (Unofficial not accepted) uploaded to NursingCAS.
  • Completion of 42 semester credit hours from the Texas Core Curriculum.
  • Completion of required College of Nursing prerequisites with a grade of “C” or better by time of enrollment. (Some may count toward being Texas Core Complete.)

* The statistics course may be taken in any academic discipline; course content should include descriptive statistics, hypothesis testing, sampling techniques, measures of relationship, regression models, and other tests for significance.

  • A minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5 in all prerequisite courses.
  • Individuals who earned an associate degree in nursing from a regionally accredited community college will be awarded 30 semester credit hours toward the RN-BSN.
  • An Admissions Committee consisting of members of the Nursing Faculty will be appointed by the Dean to review applications. A recommendation for admission will be made by the Admissions Committee.
  • You will receive an official admission decision from HSC. Once accepted, you will receive an acceptance letter outlining the next steps, including registration, orientation, and any additional requirements.
