Meenakshi Ramanathan, PharmD, BCPS

Associate Professor of Pharmacotherapy

Education & Experience:

Dr. Ramanathan received her Doctor of Pharmacy degree from The University of Texas at Austin College of Pharmacy in May 2009. Prior to pursuing her residencies, she worked at Parkland Health and Hospital System as an ambulatory clinical staff pharmacist for 3 years.She completed her PGY1 pharmacy residency at the University of Texas at Austin College of Pharmacy, University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio, and CHRISTUS Santa Rosa Health System in San Antonio, Texas in June 2013. In July 2014, Dr. Ramanathan completed her PGY2 Infectious Diseases Pharmacy Residency with the VA North Texas Health Care System and Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center School of Pharmacy. In August 2014, Dr. Ramanathan joined the College of Pharmacy as an assistant professor of pharmacotherapy with specialty in infectious diseases. Her current practice site is Medical Center of Arlington, where she works as an antimicrobial stewardship pharmacist.

Teaching Areas & Interests:

Dr. Ramanathan has been involved in Pharm.D. student teaching at various universities since receiving her Pharm.D. degree, including the University of Texas at Austin, University of Incarnate Word, and Texas Tech University. Her past teaching experiences have included precepting students on inpatient clinical rotations, facilitating case studies and other laboratories, antibiotic lectures, and pharmacotherapy lectures, amongst others. Currently, at the College, Dr. Ramanathan teaches in the following courses: pharmaceutical calculations in sterile and nonsterile compounding, integrated pharmacotherapy renal module, biopharmaceutics and pharmacokinetics, and physical assessment and patient counseling. Dr. Ramanathan’s teaching interests include pharmaceutical calculations, infectious diseases pharmacotherapy, and pharmacokinetics.

Professional Activities & Awards:

Dr. Ramanathan is a member of the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP), DFW  American College of Clinical Pharmacology (DFW ACCP), Rho Chi Honor Society, and Phil Lambda Sigma Leadership Society.

Scholarly Interests:

Dr. Ramanathan’s practice interests include infectious diseases, transplant, hematology/oncology, critical care, adult medicine, geriatrics, and pediatrics. Her current research projects focus on procalcitonin, extended-spectrum beta-lactamase (ESBL) treatment in long-term care facilities, and antimicrobial stewardship. Dr. Ramanathan is a board certified pharmacotherapy specialist as of November 2014.
