UNT Health Science Center appoints new Epidemiology professor

The University of North Texas Health Science Center (UNTHSC) College of Public Health has appointed Mohammed ELFaramawi, MD, PhD, Msc, MPH, as assistant professor of Epidemiology.
Dr. ELFaramawi joins the school from the World Health Organization (WHO), Switzerland, where he most recently served as a biostatistician in the Chronic Disease and Health Promotion department.
Prior to joining WHO, Dr. ELFaramawi served as assistant professor of preventive medicine, epidemiology and medical biostatistics for Menoufiya University, Egypt. During this time, his research focused on the correlation between Hepatitis C and liver cancer, as well as the Hepatitis C virus infection consequences, within the Egyptian population.
His special interests focus on the correlation between infectious diseases and chronic health conditions, such as cancer and heart disease.
Dr. ELFaramawi received his PhD of Public Health from Tulane University. His work on various infectious and chronic disease topics has resulted in co-authored studies on the risk of renal cancer from a diet high in meat consumption and publications and a book chapter on the relationship between depressive symptoms and atherosclerosis.
In 2007, Dr. ELFaramawi was recognized by Menoufiya University for outstanding achievement and commitment to excellence in competitive research.
