Celebrating National Public Health Week
March 12, 2015 • Uncategorized
To recognize this year’s National Public Health Week April 6-12, 2015, UNT Health Science Center College of Public Healthstudents will sponsor a Creative Health Innovations Contest, share their favorite healthy food or family/regional dish at a “Cultural Potluck” event, and team up to participate in the Victory Over Violence 5K/1K run/walk sponsored by The Women’s Center of Tarrant County. Student networking events, a Friday “Fun Day” with outdoor games and activities, and an end-of-year celebration at Pappasito’s Mexican restaurant will also be part of the celebration.
Students who have ideas for improving the world, making a positive change in public health, educating the community on important topics, and creating something new that makes a difference or touches lives in a positive way are invited to enter the Health Innovations Contest. The object is to develop a summary proposal, either as a written presentation, project model, flyer, art project or in other creative ways. Top entries will be awarded, and students will have an opportunity to connect with faculty, staff and peers who may be able to help the ideas become reality.
This year marks the 20th anniversary of the American Public Health Association’s week-long event and is an important time for the public health community, especially students, to come together in celebrating past decades of public health accomplishments and building momentum for the future.
