Dual Degree Programs

The UNT Health Science Center College of Public Health offers the following dual degree programs:

MPH/MS in Applied Anthropology

DO/MPH

PA/MPH

PharmD/MPH

DO/MHA

PA/MHA

The students in these programs are evaluated and admitted separately to each school and must meet all requirements for each degree separately. Admission to one program does not assure admission to the other.

Students completing a dual degree program receive diplomas and transcripts from each of the participating schools. Thus, they are not joint degree programs where one diploma lists both schools, but rather dual degree programs.

With the use of transfer credit and dual credit, students are required to complete 42-48 semester credit hours in MPH studies or 48 credit hours in the MHA.

MPH/MS in Applied Anthropology

The School of Public Health and the Department of Anthropology at the University of North Texas have developed a cooperative agreement that allows students to simultaneously pursue the Master of Public Health and a Master of Science in Applied Anthropology degrees. The dual degree program in Applied Anthropology and Public Health offers an opportunity to strengthen collaboration in public health, anthropology and social science research and practice. Medical anthropology is a field that uses anthropological theories as a framework to understand public health issues. Its emphasis on social and cultural influences on health, illness, and healing are central to the shared goals of improving health and social justice to eliminate local and global disparities. Candidates are required to apply and be admitted to each program separately.

MPH Application Process & Degree Plan

DO/MPH Public Health Leadership Online

The primary goal of the DO/MPH program is to provide clinical professionals with specialized public health training to develop, integrate, and apply culturally competent social, psychological, and biomedical approaches to the promotion and preservation of health. Physicians with training in public health may work in a wide range of positions in public, private, or academic settings.

The MPH degree offers the physician a significant advantage when seeking jobs that involve planning and managing health systems, performing clinical research, determining the causes of disease, or planning and implementing disease control strategies. Physicians with the MPH degree work in health departments, federal agencies, managed care and other health provider organizations, schools of public health and medicine, in the private practice arena, and in many other federal and international agencies.

Entrance to the DO/MPH requires admission to the UNTHSC DO program first. Application is made separately to each degree program. MPH courses are completed via the online classroom experience for flexible schedule accommodation.

PA/MPH Public Health Leadership Online

UNTHSC PA students have the opportunity to take advantage of our online MPH offerings during their planned course of study. MPH candidates will broaden your perspective on health and healthcare beyond a “one provider, one patient” model, improved skills in assessing community factors that affect patients health, increased expertise in health care administration or policy, and improved prospects for future opportunities as PA faculty members or in global health relief settings.

Entrance to the PA/MPH requires admission to the UNTHSC PA program first. Application is made separately to each degree program. MPH courses are completed via the online classroom experience for flexible schedule accommodation.

PharmD/MPH Public Health Leadership Online

Pharmacists are taking on a much larger role in patient-centered healthcare delivery, especially in managing chronic diseases and providing medical counseling. A Master of Public Health (MPH) degree is an advantage to pharmacists, who are increasingly expanding their capabilities to bring healthcare to the community. PharmD/MPH graduates will broaden their knowledge and expertise about public health competencies. Public health can also help expand practitioners’ impact to a larger population to achieve optimal patient outcomes.

Entrance to the PharmD/MPH requires admission to the UNTHSC PharmD program first. Application is made separately to each degree program. MPH courses are completed via the online classroom experience for flexible schedule accommodation.
