Homan named Biostatistics Chair

Sharon Homan, PhD, has been named as Chair for the Biostatistics Department in the College of Public Health.
Dr. Homan, who had been serving as Professor and Interim Chair for the department since May 2012, has prior experience as Vice President for Academic Affairs and Professor of Health Care Leadership for Rockhurst University and as Vice President for Public Health for Kansas Health Institute, a nonprofit health policy and research organization, as well as having served in various academic and leadership roles for more than 25 years at Saint Louis University.
She has served as a journal reviewer for such publications as Maternal and Child Health, the American Journal of Psychiatry, American Journal of Public Health, Journal of Rural Health, and the Journal of Maternal-Fetal Medicine, and as a grant reviewer for several organizations, including the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), National Institutes of Health (NIH) and the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA). She is the author of nearly 80 peer-reviewed publications and book reviews and has conducted close to 100 presentations on topics ranging from biostatistics, maternal child health, mental health, social determinants of health, community collaboration, public health ethics and social justice, and higher education. An active community volunteer, Dr. Homan also consults on biostatistics, most recently for the Kansas Department of Health and Environment.
Currently, she is working on two funded research projects for the Texas Health Institute and the HRSA Bureau of Health Professions, focused on maternal/child health genetics related to special needs and preparation of osteopathic medical school graduates to improve rural community health, respectively.
