UNT Health Science Center names new HMAP Chair

José A. Pagán, PhD, has been named Chair for the Department of Health Management and Policy, College of Public Health, at the University of North Texas Health Science Center at Fort Worth (UNTHSC).
He joins UNTHSC from the University of Texas-Pan American, Edinburg, where he has served as professor of economics and as director of the school’s Institute for Population Health Policy since 2005. Dr. Pagán, who has taught for UT Pan American for the last 14 years, has also served as director of the school’s Center for Border Economic Studies. Additionally, he served as a Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Health & Society Scholar at the Wharton School and School of Medicine, University of Pennsylvania, from 2003 to 2005.
Dr. Pagán is a member of the National Advisory Committee for the Interdisciplinary Nursing Quality Research Initiative of the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation; is a Fellow of Texas A&M University’s Mexican American and U.S. Latino Research Center; serves as research associate for the Population Studies Center and Population Aging Research Center of the University of Pennsylvania; and is a senior fellow of the Leonard Davis Institute of Health Economics at the University of Pennsylvania.
In addition to numerous publications, presentations, book chapters and an edited book on Worker Displacement in the US/Mexico Border Region, Dr. Pagán has been honored with the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Investigator Award in Health Policy Research; is an editorial board member of Eastern Economic Journal; has previously been selected for the Young Leaders Conference by the Council for the U.S. and Italy; and has been recognized as a Fulbright Scholar to conduct research in Monterrey, Mexico.
Dr. Pagán received his PhD in economics from the University of New Mexico, Albuquerque.
