Kathryn Cardarelli, PhD, associate professor of Epidemiology in the College of Public Health at the UNT Health Science Center (UNTHSC), Fort Worth, Texas, was recently awarded a $1.4 million grant from the Cancer Prevention Research Institute of Texas (CPRIT) for a project titled “Comprehensive Breast Cancer Prevention for High-Risk Women in Dallas County” that includes outreach and education, delivery of screening services, follow-up, and cancer preventive behavior maintenance.

This program will expand a breast cancer prevention pilot program targeting high-risk women in Dallas County, increase mammography screening in the target population, increase prevention, and ensure behavior maintenance in the community.

The long-term goal of the program is to create sustainable cancer prevention models that can be replicated in other parts of Texas in similar communities to reduce breast cancer disparities.

The program will be based on community input and participation and will be directed by the Dallas Cancer Disparities Coalition Community Advisory Board (CAB).

This is Dr. Cardarelli’s third CPRIT grant.
