Genomics Core Highlight

Congratulations to Dr. Taegun Kwon from the Genomics Core for becoming a sub-awardee on an R01 grant, collaborating with Dr. Daniel Trott of UTA to explore how senescent CD8+ T cells impact vascular aging and stiffness. Dr. Kwon will utilize his expertise in spatial and single-cell genomics to analyze transcriptomic changes in artery cells at a single-cell resolution, aiming to identify key transcripts involved in arterial aging influenced by T cells. This project integrates studies on T-cell immune system aging, age-related chronic inflammation, and vascular pathology to uncover the molecular mechanisms underlying these processes.

Core Labs Welcomes a New Team Member

We're thrilled to introduce Dr. Janak Sunuwar as the newest addition to Core Labs, joining us as a Data Scientist/Bioinformatician. With a diverse skill set encompassing computational biology, data analytics, machine learning, and clinical bioinformatics.

Dr. Sunuwar's research portfolio is expansive, spanning antimicrobial resistance gene prediction, oncological bioinformatics, COVID-19 genomic surveillance, and the application of AI/machine learning models in healthcare. Beyond his contributions to sequencing projects and COVID-19 variant tracking, Dr. Sunuwar brings a proficiency in analyzing large scientific research datasets across various disciplines.

Bioinformatics seminar on April 19th

Genomics Core is organizing an in-person seminar session on April 19^th, Wednesday to introduce researchers to the Qiagen CLC and IPA software packages.

Genomics Core manager update

Dr. Taegun Kwon is joining the Genomics Core as its new manager starting Jan 17^th, 2023. With a Ph.D. from The University of Texas at Austin and over 7 years of experience in the genomics field, Dr. Kwon brings a wealth of expertise and experience to the role. He is excited to be working closely with researchers in and around HSC to understand their needs and ensure that the Core is able to provide the necessary resources and expertise to support the innovative work.

Genomics Core acquiring new single-cell technologies

Genomics Core is excited to announce the upcoming arrival of Chromium X Series and Visium CytAssist from 10x genomics. These cutting-edge platforms will provide researchers with powerful new tools for single-cell genomics and spatial transcriptomics research.
