Summer Undergraduate Research Internship Program (SRIP)

The Summer Undergraduate Research Internship Program is a 10-week mentor-guided summer research training experience for undergraduate students across the United States. Selected students are matched with a mentor based on their research interests. Throughout their stay at HSC, they work with their mentors to enrich their understanding of biomedical sciences and health disparities. In addition, students participate in mentoring workshops, role-model seminars, and other lecture series that develop their competencies in science, research presentations, professionalism, and communication skills.

The overarching goal of the program is to increase the number of diverse and highly motivated students from underrepresented groups, disadvantaged population (including individuals with disabilities) that enter the fields of biomedical science and health disparities research.

The Summer Multicultural Advanced Research Training (SMART)

The Summer Multicultural Advanced Research Training (SMART) Program brings undergraduate students to the UNT Health Science Center campus to participate in a 10-week biomedical science project. Participants become familiar with the varied disciplines and methodologies used in biomedical research.

SMART is a program for multicultural students made possible in part by the National Institutes of Health and the National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute. The NIH has designated African Americans, Native Americans, Mexican Americans and Mainland Puerto Ricans as underrepresented populations in the sciences. However, through additional funding provided by our corporate partners, the UNT Health Science Center invites applications from all interested students.

The Developing Undergraduate Researchers-Matter (DURA-M) Program, sponsored by the National Institute on Drug Abuse

The Developing Undergraduate Researchers-Matter (DURA-M) program, addresses the significant gap in the number of underrepresented minority groups, disadvantaged populations and individuals with disabilities that enter biomedical and behavioral science careers. This program will provide undergraduate students interested in pursuing NIDA-related research, a 10-week summer research experience in a mentor-guided laboratory and workshops to enhance their academic and career development.

Summer Scholars in Cancer Research (SSCR)

HSC Scholars in Cancer Research is an innovative, integrated training program focused on the students at critical transition points, early undergraduate, graduate and postdoctoral career stages that are essential to meet the need of the cancer research workforce in Texas and USA.

Summer Scholars in Cancer Research (SSCR) is one of the program components of the HSC Scholars in Cancer Research Program offered to undergraduate students. This program is designed to provide stage-specific competencies for undergraduates in science knowledge, research skill development, professionalism, and communication. The students will be trained through short-term exposures in the field of cancer and health disparities.

The Summer Scholars will have an 10-week mentor-guided cancer research training experience with enrichment activities (e.g. didactic workshops, scientific seminar, role model seminar, mentoring workshops and ethics training) expected to provide a comprehensive introductory exposure to cancer-related biomedical research.
