50 Heroes: Dr. Mark A. Baker
Dr. Mark A. Baker (TCOM ‘76) is a tireless supporter of osteopathic medicine and the UNT Health Science Center.
Dr. Baker was named Distinguished Alumnus of the Year in 1995, earned the Dean’s Award for Philanthropy in 2006 and received the Founder’s Medal, which honors a lifetime of teaching, listening and learning.
In 2017, he assumed the presidency of the American Osteopathic Association, representing more than 123,000 osteopathic physicians and medical students and becoming the first Texas physician to lead the organization since 1986.
Dr. Baker, retired President of Western Radiology in Hurst, also held leadership roles in the Texas Osteopathic Medical Association and the American Osteopathic College of Radiology.
For years, to welcome new students to the TCOM family, Dr. Baker and his wife, Rita, invited the incoming class of 230 medical students to their home for a backyard swimming party.
For his selfless commitment to osteopathic medicine and UNTHSC, Dr. Baker is a hero.
