Nearly 150 managed care pharmacists and pharmacy students from Texas and the southwest region will congregate on the HSC campus on Saturday, Feb. 3 for the annual Southwest Academy of Managed Care Pharmacy Day of Education.
This is the first time the College of Pharmacy is hosting the regional conference – a great opportunity to highlight the pharmacy school’s faculty expertise in health outcomes research and this unique career path in pharmacy.
“We are honored to be the host site for this year’s SW-AMCP event. It is an incredible opportunity for our faculty and students to network and advance their knowledge in managed care pharmacy,” said Annesha White, PhD, interim dean of the College of Pharmacy and current president of the AMCP Foundation Board of Trustees.
The Day of Education includes five hours of pharmacist continuing education, including a panel session, “Pharmacists’ Role in Using Artificial Intelligence to Improve Health Outcomes,” presented by the College of Pharmacy’s outcomes research faculty. Presenters Rafia Rasu, PhD, Mona Pathak, PhD, Usha Sambamoorthi, PhD, and Bo Zhou, PhD, together hold a wealth experience in this field.
On Friday, Feb. 2, prior to the Day of Education, the College of Pharmacy is hosting a pre-event reception to welcome distinguished guests, including the following: AMCP chief executive officer, Susan Cantrell, RPh; CEO emeritus of the Pharmacy Quality Alliance, Laura Cranston, RPh; and the Southwest AMCP’s president, Abby Shimon, PharmD.
“We hope students, faculty and staff from across HSC will join us for this opportunity to meet and network with national leaders in managed care pharmacy,” said Dr. Rasu, PhD, who leads the Applied Outcomes Research MS and certificate programs. “Students and graduates will also share their experiences and impact of our AOR and AMCP programs in shaping their career paths.”
The College of Pharmacy Welcome Reception on Feb. 2 runs from 4 to 5 p.m. located in the IREB Innovation Suite on the first floor and is free to HSC faculty, students and staff. Light refreshments will be served.
