North Texas Health Forum tackles infant mortality issue
More babies die each year in Tarrant County than in almost any county in the U.S., possibly as a result of women’s health throughout their lives. Experts in the battle against infant mortality will gather at the third annual North Texas Health Forum to discuss these critical data and create a plan to address Tarrant County’s infant mortality issue.
The free forum, titled Reducing Infant Mortality in Tarrant County: It’s Time for Action and sponsored by the School of Public Health, is open to the public. It will be held at the Fort Worth Community Arts Center on April 8 and 9. Register through UNTHSC’s office of Professional and Continuing Education.
Keynote speakers
Keynote speaker is Audra D. Robertson, MD, MPH, instructor for the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Brigham and Women’s Hospital, Boston. Since 2008, she has also served as clinical and research director for The Birth Equity Initiative, a program to eliminate racial disparities in infant mortality through the Center for Community Health and Health Equity at Brigham and Women’s.
Tamara Wrenn, MA, CCE, CIMT, a senior consultant for Practice Matters Consulting Firm and founder and executive director of Just Us Women Productions, LLC and All Things Birth, also will share her experience in the practical application of the Life Course Theory in reducing racial/ethnic disparities in infant mortality and women’s health.
