The UNT System Board of Regents have approved a UNT System College of Pharmacy, as authorized in the 82^nd Texas legislative session. As part of the three-way partnership among UNT, the UNT Health Science Center and UNT Dallas, the College of Pharmacy students will earn a Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) degree and will attend the graduate portion of their classes on the UNT Health Science Center campus at Fort Worth along with professional practice experience.  Additional classes will eventually expand to UNT and UNT Dallas.

The initial class of 80 students are expected to begin in 2013, with the anticipation of classes expanding to 100 students by 2015. Entering students must have completed a pre-pharmacy curriculum prior to admission to the four-year doctoral program. The new college will follow prescribed steps to earn accreditation through the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE).

Administrative leadership of the program will be through the Health Science Center, with acceptance and curriculum committees composed of representatives of all three UNT campuses. Glenn Dillon, PhD, vice president for research and professor of Pharmacology and Neuroscience at the Health Science Center, was named interim dean of the college reporting to Provost Thomas Yorio, PhD. Initial funding will be provided by UNTHSC and private donations.

This is the first college of pharmacy in the North Texas area.
