UNTHSC expansion begins
The University of North Texas Health Science Center has taken the first steps in its efforts to expand its campus size according to its recently completed 20-year Master Plan. A new building on the corner of Camp Bowie Boulevard and Montgomery Street will provide the Health Science Center with an auditorium that can be divided into smaller lecture halls, new patient-simulation labs, and a larger osteopathic manipulative medicine training facility.
The new building will be erected on the site of the former Osteopathic Medical Center of Texas, which the Health Science Center purchased in 2005 after the hospital’s closure in 2004.
Internal demolition of the OMCT building started Jan. 8, with external demolition planned to start immediately after. Construction of the new building is schedule to begin in early June.
The Health Science Center will hold an event to honor the contributions of the hospital to the Texas College of Osteopathic Medicine at 1-2 p.m., Wednesday, Feb. 27, on the west side of the hospital in Parking Lot M.
