50 Heroes: Dr. Jeff Beeson
Jeff Beeson is the calm in the midst of a storm. Dr. Beeson is the Associate Chief Medical Officer for Global Medical Response, the largest medical transportation company in the United States. He is also a Vice Provost over Academic Partnerships and Initiatives for University of North Texas Health Science Center in Fort Worth and an Assistant Professor in Medical Education at the Texas College of Osteopathic Medicine.
His proudest role is that of a Medical Team Manager for Texas Task Force, the State’s Urban Search and Rescue Teams based in the Texas A&M Engineering Extension Service. He has served as the teams’ Medical Director since 2015 and has deployed to all types of disasters from explosions, tornados, widespread flooding and hurricanes.
Jeff has spent over 30 years working in Public Safety and Population Health starting his career as an Emergency Medical Technician working in rural Texas. He completed is undergraduate degree in Nursing. He became a Paramedic and Registered Nurse working in Emergency Departments and with Air Medical Flight programs including the well known Dr. Red Duke and Hermann Life Flight in Houston. He completed his medical education at TCOM and his Emergency Medicine Residency at Parkland in Dallas. He is Board Certified in Emergency Medicine and Emergency Medical Services through the American Board of Emergency Medicine.
Jeff first stepped foot on the campus of the Texas College of Osteopathic Medicine in 1977 when is father was hired as the first police chief of the campus. In high school Jeff worked for the Dr. Daniels in the Department of Laboratory Animal Medicine at HSC.
Dr. Beeson serves on the Board of Directors for the Texas EMS and Trauma Acute Care Foundation, National Association of EMS Physicians’, Board Member and Medical Director of the Cowtown Marathon and is a Governor Abbott appointee to the Texas Correctional Managed Health Care Committee.
Dr. Beeson’s executive experience includes having served as the Chief Medical Officer for UNT Health, the Medical Director of the MedStar System in Fort Worth, the Texas Medical Director for Acadian Ambulance Service, Vice President and Executive Medical Director for Evolution Health.
Jeff previously served on the Board of Directors of the Tarrant County Academy of Medicine, the Committee on Accreditation of EMS Educational Programs, and was a Governor Perry appointee to the Texas Governors EMS and Trauma Advisory Council.
Jeff is married to Jeanice, a neonatal and pediatric nurse practitioner. They have a daughter Darby who is attending Texas A&M with the goal of becoming a physician, and a son Dylan who is attending Central Texas College in a professional pilot program.
