50 Heroes: HSC Student Advocates Association
It takes a village to guide our future health care providers throughout their medical school career. At HSC, the Student Advocates Association is a big part of that village.
The Student Advocates Association (SAA) is a non-profit organization comprised of the spouses, significant others and families of Osteopathic Medical Students. SAA is a branch of the Advocates for the American Osteopathic Association, a national organization created to support the American Osteopathic Association and the osteopathic profession.
The Texas College of Osteopathic Medicine established a local SAA chapter to help support our TCOM students and their families, as well as share the overall mission and purpose of SAA.
The Student Advocates Association was created to help support, encourage and inform students and their advocates through events and meetings during students’ time in medical school. The SAA believes that the more support students receive, the better doctors they become.
This group provides opportunities for members to share their unique experiences beyond “surviving” medical school to actually “thriving” in medical school, while strengthening marriages, families, and relationships.
The SAA is a reminder that members are in this together and it provides an opportunity to support osteopathic medical students and advocates when they need it most.
“I am so proud of what SAA has done and continues to do, and I am incredibly grateful for us to be honored by UNTHSC,” SAA President Megan Maples said.
Honor your HSC hero today! Please make a tribute gift, submit a photo or share a story that you value. Join us throughout 2020 as we celebrate the people, events and innovations that made UNTHSC all it is today — and look ahead to the next 50 years. For the 50th anniversary, team members nominated people whose contributions make them HSC Heroes. Each week, a new Hero will be revealed. View the list of all our Hero profiles published so far this year. There is a new one each week. |
