Concert, barbecue to benefit breast cancer prevention
The second annual Blues 4 Breast Cancer concert on June 21 will benefit a UNT Health Science Center project that increases breast cancer prevention in Dallas County.
The concert will be held at Babbs Bros BBQ and Blues, 330 Bedford St., in West Dallas. Doors open at 11 a.m. and the music starts at noon.
Admission is free, though donations are appreciated.
Proceeds from the event support the UNTHSC Center for Community Health’s Breast Cancer Prevention Education Project, which increases prevention, screening and early detection of breast cancer in women 40 years or older.
Since its beginning in 2007 in South Dallas, the program has partnered with local organizations under the leadership of the Dallas Cancer Disparities Community Coalition, reaching hundreds of women directly and thousands indirectly. Funding for this program is made possible by Grant #PP110190 from the Cancer Prevention and Research Institute of Texas (CPRIT).
This year’s concert will feature at least seven bands, a large array of raffle items and T-shirt sales. The UT Southwestern Moncrief Cancer Institute Mobile Mammography Unit will offer women no- and low-cost mammograms. To request an appointment, call 1-800-405-7739 and specify the June 21 event.
