Donation ensures homeless people receive free health checks
A $5,000 donation by UNT Health Science Center Foundation will help more homeless people at the Presbyterian Night Shelter receive free health screenings.
The money, raised through the UNTHSC Internal Giving Campaign, will support health checks performed regularly by Texas College of Osteopathic Medicine students at Tarrant County’s largest emergency shelter. Homeless people have high rates of chronic diseases and often lack access to basic health care.
Chronic health problems prevent many homeless people from keeping jobs, transitioning into stable housing and living more independent lives.
“The Presbyterian Night Shelter is so grateful to receive this generous gift from UNT Health Science Center Foundation in support of TCOM students who provide monthly health checkups to our clients,” said Michelle Crim, the shelter’s Vice President of Development. “For many, this is their best opportunity to receive hands-on assessments and recommendations on follow-up care.”
