Dr. Laszlo Prokai receives Fulbright Specialist Award to share glaucoma expertise in Hungary

Laszlo Prokai, PhD, has received a Fulbright Specialist Award to share his expertise on drug discovery and design with researchers and students at Semmelweis University in Budapest, Hungary.
The Robert A. Welch Chair in Biochemistry and professor of Pharmacology and Neuroscience at The University of North Texas Health Science Center at Fort Worth’s School of Biomedical Sciences is an expert in discovery and preclinical development of new therapies against neurodegenerative and ophthalmic diseases as well as mass spectrometry and proteomics. He will spend six-weeks teaching a didactic course in Semmelweis University’s PhD program and sharing his knowledge of glaucoma with researchers to enhance their research skills and foster collaborations. Founded in 1769, Semmelweis University was named one of the world’s top 250 universities and the highest ranked Hungarian university on the Times Higher Education 2023 World University Rankings.
“I feel honored, and I am grateful to the U.S. Department of State and the Fulbright Foreign Scholarship Board for giving me the award and the opportunity to share my knowledge with researchers in Hungary,” Prokai said.
The Fulbright Specialist Program pairs highly qualified U.S. academics and professionals with host institutions abroad to share their expertise, strengthen institutional linkages, hone their skills and gain international experience.
Prokai is one of more than 400 U.S. citizens selected each year to share expertise with host institutions abroad through the Fulbright Specialist Program.
Recipients of the award are selected for their academic and professional achievement, demonstrated leadership in their field and their potential to foster long-term cooperation between institutions in the U.S. and abroad.
The Fulbright Program is the flagship international educational exchange program sponsored by the U.S. government and is designed to build lasting connections between the people of the United States and the people of other countries.
