HSC mentoring program receives Inspiring Programs in STEM Award
The National Research Mentoring Network-Resource Center program at The University of North Texas Health Science Center at Fort Worth (HSC) has received INSIGHT Into Diversity magazine’s 2021 Inspiring Programs in STEM Award for advancing diversity, promoting equality, and building a stronger U.S. workforce. With the continuous hard work and dedication from the NRMN teams at HSC and Vanderbilt University, NRMN has provided a program that allows diversity and mentoring to coincide with each other.
The NRMN program focuses on diversifying the scientific workforce by encouraging individuals from underrepresented groups to start and stay in biomedical careers.
“Receiving this award truly shows the NRMN team’s dedication to diversifying the STEM workforce. Our team at Vanderbilt University has also been a critical component to our success. Vanderbilt’s co-leadership has helped us achieve our goals and keep our mission alive,” said Jamboor Vishwanatha, Ph.D., Principal Investigator of NRMN and Regents Professor. “Since NRMN has been a leader in providing mentorship opportunities to the STEM fields nationwide for seven years, we’re looking forward to continue working with HSC to support our current and future mentors and mentees for the years to come.”
Underrepresented professionals who work in STEM fields enjoy significant opportunities to engage in new discoveries and innovations on a global scale. INSIGHT Into Diversity magazine recognizes the importance of increasing the number of people from underrepresented groups entering STEM professions. Colleges and universities such as HSC have the opportunity to accomplish this through innovative programs and initiatives for current and future students.
This award is a tribute to the people and programs that encourage and inspire a new generation of people to consider careers in science, technology, engineering, and math.
