HSC’s Center for Older Adults is supporting the Alzheimer’s Association for the “Walk to End Alzheimer’s” on Oct. 30 at The Shops at Clearfork in Fort Worth.

The Center for Older Adults is a major sponsor, and has a team participating in the walk, which will include faculty, students, and staff.

“As a university, it is important that we use our platform to support community organizations and bring awareness to challenges that impact everybody, every day,” said Ericka Yeager, MHA, Senior Project Coordinator at the HSC Center for Older Adults. “By supporting the Alzheimer’s Association in their mission to end Alzheimer’s, we hope we can raise awareness for the research, services and programs that they offer, so that families know where to go to receive help.”

Held annually in more than 600 communities nationwide, the Alzheimer’s Association Walk to End Alzheimer’s® is the world’s largest fundraiser for Alzheimer’s care, support and research. This event calls on participants of all ages and abilities to join the fight against the disease.

“Everyone has been so supportive of this cause, and hearing personal stories from those who have been impacted by this terrible disease has really opened my eyes to the need for raising awareness about resources available,” Yeager said. “It will be great to see HSC represented at the walk, and we are excited to share our resources and programs with the community as well.”

Students from the Texas College of Osteopathic Medicine and the Student Chapter of the American Geriatric Society will be offering health screenings to walk participants.

There is no fee to register for the walk, but participants are encouraged to make a donation that will allow the Alzheimer’s Association to provide care, support and research towards the ultimate goal, a cure for the disease.
