50 Heroes: Dr. Paul Saperstein
Dr. Saperstein provided empathetic, high-quality care to countless patients at the UNTHSC Patient Care Clinic on East Seminary Drive. He retired in 2010.
A U.S. Navy veteran, Dr. Saperstein operated a private practice in Kansas City, Mo., and Fort Worth prior to joining UNTHSC. At HSC, Dr. Saperstein was a professor and faculty member in the Department of Family Medicine and a physician at the old osteopathic hospital.
Beloved by his patients and students, Dr. Saperstein was often featured in Fort Worth Magazine in its “Top Docs” issue, and named Clinical Faculty of the Year or Teacher of the Year at the Texas College of Osteopathic Medicine. In 1997, Dr. Saperstein established the Phillip P. Saperstein, DO, Award for Outstanding Family Practice Resident in the Family Practice Residency Program at UNTHSC.
Dr. Saperstein not only helped prepare TCOM students to practice medicine but also advanced his profession through participation in medical associations. He was a leader on campus and helped enhance UNTHSC by serving on numerous university committees.
