Pediatric Mobile Clinic opens with cheers and a drumroll

With a drum line and a cheerleading squad providing a soundtrack, UNT Health Science Center President Michael R. Williams and a group of Fort Worth leaders celebrated the opening of the new Pediatric Mobile Clinic on Tuesday.

“It’s not often you get to watch a dream turn into a reality,” Dr. Williams, DO, MD, MBA, said at the clinic’s grand opening at Morningside Middle School. “This is a dream that can change people’s lives.”

Mobile-Unit-Ribbon-Cutting-webThe clinic, a 40-foot doctor’s office on wheels, is the centerpiece of UNTHSC’s effort to provide health care directly to children living in Fort Worth’s underserved neighborhoods. The Pediatric Mobile Clinic team will treat children in four neighborhoods: Como, Morningside, North Side and Stop Six, visiting all four neighborhoods each week.

UNTHSC caregivers say they hope to improve the overall health of children in Tarrant County, 75,000 of whom are uninsured. Through the clinic, they will provide services at no cost to families, offering wellness visits, physicals, checkups, immunizations, screening, laboratory testing and education in nutrition, physical activity and dental health.

Walter Dansby, Superintendent of Fort Worth Independent School District, praised UNTHSC, its private foundation partners and city leaders for “coming together for the benefit of each and every child in the city.”

“Isn’t this a great opportunity for Fort Worth?” said Mayor Betsy Price. “Healthy children are the backbone of our future.”
