Public Health student to perform at Crawfish Boil

Organizers of the 6thAnnual Alumni and Friends Crawfish Boil didn’t have to look far to find musical talent for the on-campus event.
Esther Annan, a 1st -year PhD candidate in the School of Public Health, will perform April 26 under her stage name Kukuletta. Students may recognize Annan from the UNT Health Science Center Cultural Night Talent Show last year.
Annan describes her music as Afro Pop — or sort of a mix of pop, soul and gospel music.
“I have been so busy since I got to Fort Worth I haven’t had much time to play other than on Cultural Night,” Annan said. “I’m usually drowning in books, so I’m excited and grateful they invited me to the Crawfish Boil.”
Annan started singing as a young girl at church in Ghana. She later picked up the guitar by watching online videos while in medical school in her native country. She performed at a few open-mic nights, played some concerts and eventually released an extended play album.
After earning her medical degree, she came to the United States to get her master’s degree in public health at New York University before landing at UNTHSC to pursue her doctorate.
She’ll perform at the Crawfish Boil with another local musician Simone Nicole, who Annan met while living in an Airbnb for three months after arriving in Fort Worth.
“Most of the people I have met here are unique and amazing,” Annan said.
The event is open to all UNTHSC employees, students, alumni, and community members. It is family friendly and will feature games, a bounce house and face painting.
