Research Appreciation Day is April 1
Research Appreciation Day (RAD), an institutional tradition encompassing medical, public health and basic science research, is April 1 from 8 a.m. to 5:15 p.m. UNTHSC research results will be showcased during the event in the Medical Education and Training (MET) Building at the UNT Health Science Center. Students, faculty and staff will share their research efforts with the campus community and the public.
Twenty-two research areas representing laboratory bench, bedside and community-based research will be presented through the 218 abstracts submitted. Top submission areas include cancer, cardiovascular disease, case presentations, eye and vision, immunology, neuroscience and public health. RAD will give more than $10,000 in awards to students, residents and postdoctoral researchers for their research projects judged by industry, private sector and university judges.
Virend Kristen Somers, MD, PhD, professor of medicine at the Mayo Clinic and international director of the International Clinical Research Center in Brno, Czech Republic, will present the keynote address, "Sleep Apnea and Cardiovascular Disease — Evidence, Mechanisms and Clinical Implications," during a luncheon in the MET Auditorium from 12:15 p.m. to 2 p.m. The luncheon is open to the public, and boxed lunches will be served on a first-come, first-served basis.
