Justin Burton has been appointed as the new director of SaferCare Texas, The University of North Texas Health Science Center at Fort Worth’s department dedicated to enhancing patient safety initiatives across the state.
Burton is a registered nurse with more than 20 years of experience. He joined SaferCare Texas in 2022 as the department’s patient safety and quality executive and became an assistant professor for HSC’s new College of Nursing in 2023. Burton’s expertise in data analytics, quality improvement, and patient safety was essential in developing the SaferCare Texas Patient Safety Organization, the first ambulatory care-focused patient safety organization in Texas.
“We share a unique privilege to be in a position to have an impact on reducing preventable patient harm and improving the quality of health care,” Burton said. “I look forward to being a leader in this critical endeavor, and witnessing what innovations, creative resources, and patient safety expertise this incredible team will bring to communities across Texas.”
With a strong background in health care management and a proven track record of driving improvement in patient outcomes, Burton is poised to lead patient safety innovation to new heights.
As director, Burton will oversee the strategic direction of SaferCare Texas, working closely with health care providers, policymakers, and community stakeholders to implement evidence-based practices and innovative solutions.
“Patient safety doesn’t happen by accident,” said Dr. Jeff Beeson, HSC’s interim executive vice president of health systems. “We are excited to have Justin lead the SaferCare Texas team as we continue to focus on reducing preventable harm across our state.”
