Student white coats symbolize responsibility, compassion

On July 20, 350 new students will join the UNT Health Science Center family at the annual White Coat Ceremony at West Texas Exhibit Hall at Will Rogers Memorial Center in Fort Worth.

The ceremony will feature a formal “cloaking” of incoming Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine, Physical Therapy and Physician Assistant students with the traditional white coat attire of health care professionals to symbolize responsibility and compassion.

Thomas Yorio, PhD, Provost and Executive Vice President for Academic Affairs, will receive the Founders’ Medal, in recognition of his “significant contributions to health care and to the osteopathic medical profession.”

Walter Rainwater, Fort Worth civic leader and member of the UNTHSC Foundation Board of Directors, will be awarded the Mary E. Luibel Distinguished Service Award in recognition of his longstanding and generous contributions to the community and commitment to the belief that “service to others is life’s highest calling.”
