TCOM graduate leads Texas Health Physicians Group

 Parsley,-Shawn---THPG-President
Shawn Parsley, DO (TCOM ’94)

Shawn Parsley, DO, a graduate of UNT Health Science Center’s Texas College of Osteopathic Medicine, says that caring for the patient as a whole will be his guiding philosophy as the new president of the Texas Health Physicians Group.

THPG is a nonprofit organization of 800-plus physicians, physician assistants, nurse practitioners and medical professionals, most located in Tarrant County. The organization helps Texas Health Resources (THR) coordinate care, from prevention and wellness programs to acute, long-term and hospice care.

Parsley (TCOM ’94) says he aims to help THPG become a national leader in population health management. And in partnership with THR, he wants the physicians’ group to be recognized as the system of choice for patients seeking medical care and physicians seeking practice opportunities.

Parsley is board-certified in family practice and has been a THPG member since January 2011. He will continue to practice medicine part-time at Lake Worth Family Medicine in Fort Worth, where he has served patients for 13 years.

His TCOM experience and the osteopathic philosophy inform his approach to North Texans’ health care.

“The patient’s mind, body and spirit all must be addressed in order to achieve well-being,” he said. “The engagement of the medical professional community will be essential in a population health management strategy, so I feel uniquely prepared because I was trained to address the patient’s mind, body and spirit from the beginning of my medical training.”
