TCOM students care for homeless at Day Resource Center

Look in the Dec. 14 edition of the Star-Telegram for an article on TCOM student outreach at the Fort Worth Day Resource Center.  Reporter Alex Branch talked with TCOM students Christian Dean, Amir Barzin and Ghazeleh Moayedi about their commitment to giving back to the people of Tarrant County.

Each Friday, medical students from the Texas College of Osteopathic Medicine screen individuals at Fort Worth’s Day Resource Center — one of the main refuges for the homeless during the day.

Students check blood pressure, screen for diabetes, ask questions about nutrition and life style, and test for pregnancy and STDs in addition to other illnesses.

Catching illness and injury early can prevent more serious developments and emergency room trips, which are costly in both treatment and dollars.
