UNTHSC sponsors Cowtown health fair, races
The UNT Health Science Center is proud to be the presenting sponsor for the annual Cowtown Marathon Saturday, Feb. 27. The Health Science Center’s faculty physician practice, UNT Health, will sponsor a health fair from 4 to 8 p.m., Friday, Feb. 26, in the medical tent at 4th and Main in the Flying Saucer parking lot.
Health Science Center students and UNT Health physicians will offer blood pressure checks, blood glucose testing, body fat percentage analysis, flexibility testing, bone density scans and depression screening, as well as provide information on clinical trials held at the Health Science Center. The health fair is free and open to the public.
The Cowtown is one of the largest multi-event road races in the country. The event also includes a half-marathon, 10K, 5K, Kids 5K and 50K ultra-marathon. President Scott Ransom will start the race. This year’s event has a record number of participants registered, with over 19,000 runners. On Saturday, the Health Science Center will have an osteopathic manipulative medicine (OMM) demonstration in the expo tent. The medical tent will be open to runners in need of medical assistance throughout the day as well. Albert Yurvati, DO, Chair of Surgery, serves as the medical director for The Cowtown medical team and Alan Stockard, DO, associate professor of OMM, serves as the assistant medical director.
