Fellow’s Performing Arts Medicine Clinic
Frequently Asked Questions
The fellow’s clinic is grant-funded and specifically designed to help performers who do not have health insurance or are underinsured (with high out-of-pocket costs for medical care). Fellow’s clinic is only offered on Monday afternoons. Dr. Fung, Dr. Lee, and Dr. Surve are available for Performing Arts Medicine during the week through the Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine clinic, which accepts most major insurance plans. Click here to schedule an appointment.
If you have health insurance coverage, performing arts medicine services with Dr. Fung, Dr. Lee, or Dr. Surve are always available through our Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine (OMM) clinic. To make a performing arts medicine appointment through OMM, please call 817-735-2455. For primary care needs, please call our Family Medicine department at 817-735-2228 to schedule with Dr. Aston.
The grant-supported Fellow’s clinic is designed primarily for artists who are uninsured (or underinsured) or do not have access to a physician or physical therapist with expertise in treating performance-related injuries. You are appropriate for our free clinic if you fall into that category, no matter your age, skill level, or diagnosis.
During your appointment, it may be determined that you could benefit from a more comprehensive array of treatment options available with a primary care physician or specialist. Our providers are happy to make a referral to another HSC Health physician or your existing provider for follow-up.
What can I expect from a typical appointment?
At HSC Health, we utilize an interdisciplinary approach in the care of performing artists. You will be seen by a physician who may recommend further work-up, in which case we will refer you back to your primary care providers or offer you information on free or reduced medical services in the local community.
For the first half of your appointment, you can expect to discuss the details of your illness or injury and undergo a physical examination. For the second half of the appointment, the doctor will help you develop a basic home exercise program, as appropriate, to help address your issue (and improve your technique).
You can expect your appointment to last around 30-40 minutes for new patients, and 15-20 minutes for follow-up visits. (Part of the visit will be dedicated to discussing your problem and performing a physical examination, including teaching exercises as appropriate).
