New Investigator
Dear New Investigator,
Welcome to the University of North Texas Health Science Center at Fort Worth(HSC)! If you plan to conduct animal research at HSC as a Principal Investigator, we would like to provide some helpful information to help you get started. Below, please find a list of the necessary information. Please feel free to contact the IACUC Office with any questions you may have.
If you are an external researcher (i.e you are not affiliated or employed by HSC) click here.
Submitting an Animal Protocol:
Before any animal work can begin, an Animal Protocol will need to be reviewed and approved by our Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC). The protocol form can be found on our IACUC website, which also contains a wealth of information for our Animal Users such as forms, procedures and guidelines, and the protocol submission deadline and meeting schedule.
According to our Principal Investigator eligibility policy, HSC Faculty are eligible to serve as a Principal Investigator for an IACUC Protocol. However, individuals without HSC Faculty status, may serve as a PI under the following conditions: (1) as a co-investigator with an individual who meets the eligibility requirements, or (2) receive written approval from the Vice President for Research.
Meet with the Veterinarian:
We hope that you have already had an opportunity to meet with our Veterinarian and the Department of Laboratory Animal Medicine (DLAM) staff prior to your appointment. However, if not, please meet with them as soon as possible to make arrangement for the housing of your animals. Please feel free to contact DLAM:
- (817) 735-2017
- HSCDLAM.Office@unthsc.edu
- DLAM website
Personnel Requirements:
Please ensure all personnel listed on the Animal Care and Use Protocol meet the Personnel Requirements:
- Enrollment in the Occupational Health Program
- Completion of CITI Training Requirements
- DLAM Policy & Handling Training
We look forward to working with you. You are welcome to contact the IACUC Office at any time should you have any questions.
Best Regards,
The IACUC Office
