Pursue the Master of Public Health degree as an on-campus or online student. UNTHSC School of Public Health offers the Master of Public Health degree as both an on-campus or online program.  The MPH areas of concentration include:

• Biostatistics and Data Science
• Epidemiology
• Maternal & Child Health
• Public Health Leadership (offered in both cohort and online delivery)

The MPH cohort program is a 2-year, full-time, cohort style program

The MPH Online program in Public Health Leadership is a 100% online flexible program. With five different starting times, this online delivery is designed with the working professional in mind. Applicants may qualify for either the 48 or 42 semester credit hour option based on prior training and work experience.

The MPH-PHL Online 48-hour option is best for recent graduates. The MPH-PHL Online 42-hour option is designed for those with at least 3 years of work experience in public health or medical professions or applicants that already hold an advanced degree or are enrolled in a dual graduate program.

The MHA Online program is a 100% online flexible program. With Fall and Spring starts, this program is designed for working professionals. Applicants for the online MHA program must have at least two years of health-related work experience in either a clinical or a management position and currently employed full-time in healthcare.

Scholarly research has the potential to transform the field of public health, but it requires principal investigators with highly developed skill sets to bring it to realization. The Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Public Health Sciences prepares students to become research-focused, faculty members in schools and colleges of public health. Students will select from one of two areas of concentration to focus on during their studies as a PhD student here at the UNTHSC School of Public Health. Students will select either Epidemiology or Health Behavior Research as their area of concentration. Strong funding packages are available for this highly selective program.

Advance your knowledge in public health through our Graduate Certificate program here at the UNTHSC School of Public Health. The Graduate Certificate consists of 15-credit hours. • Dr. Eun-young Mun : Prevention & intervention of alcohol misuse/use disorders among young adults.
• Dr. Scott Walters : Motivational interviewing & technology in behavioral health interventions.

Maternal and Child Health

• Dr. Erika Thompson : Maternal and child health and sexual and reproductive health issues.
• Dr. Stacey Griner : Sexual health, women’s health, oral health, dissemination and implementation science.

Consisting of 12 full-time and 15 affiliated faculty, Department of Health Behavior & Health Systems is one of two departments in the UNTHSC School of Public Health. The goal of the HBHS department is to help communities and health systems improve policy, management, and public health practice. Graduates of our MPH, MHA, MS and PhD programs assume positions in healthcare, business, human services, research, and academic settings. Our faculty are widely recognized for their innovative teaching and impactful research. Their work has been funded by the National Institutes of Health, Centers for Disease Control, National Science Foundation, and many other national, state and local agencies. Faculty are widely published in the areas of patient safety, disease control, health disparities and underserved populations, women’s and children’s health, participatory research, substance abuse prevention, and online/m-health interventions. HBHS faculty have received national and international awards for their work bridging teaching, research and practice.

The Department of Biostatistics and Epidemiology strives to become a model for innovative research, educational excellence, and high impact public health practice that positively affects health issues locally, nationally, and globally. Our goal is to provide a collegial interdisciplinary learning environment that produces strong researchers and public health practitioners who use biostatistics, epidemiology, and environmental health theories, principles, and methods to significantly improve health at the population level. Graduates from our masters and doctoral programs have found employment in academia, public health departments, research organizations, and industry. The faculty in the Department have diverse expertise in areas such as healthy aging, cancer, quasi-experimental trial methodology, surveillance, and vaccination programming, as well as in the development of novel statistical methods applied to clinical trials, neuroimaging, and survey sampling, genetics. Their efforts have led to numerous high impact publications and external funding from the National Institutes of Health, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and State of Texas agencies.
