The Center for Student Life builds community and develops experiences that encourage and support student success. The office provides a range of services, which include coordinating institutional events; planning new student orientation; developing leadership programs; overseeing student governments and organizations; and collaborating with campus partners. Signature Programs and Services
The White Coat Ceremony is a rite of passage for HSC students that encourages a psychological contract for professionalism and empath y. T he event emphasizes the importance of the foundational mission of the institution: education, research, patient care and service. T he white coat is a symbolic, nonverbal communication used to express and reaffirm a fundamental belief in a system that society observes. It is a cloak of compassion.
The purpose of new student orientation, for both online and in-person programs, is to welcome incoming students and help them adjust t o student life at HSC. Orientation is a mandatory event for all incoming students where they will learn about academic and community expectations, campus culture, as well as services and available resources.
This training provides students the opportunity to enhance their intrapersonal and interpersonal skills and competencies pertaining to conflict-resolution, decision-making and effective leadership. CSL team members and partners equip students with tools that provide them success within their student organization and beyond.
The CSL team building training creates an engaging foundation for student officers to bond with their executive team and develop interprofessional skills for working in a diverse environment.
A student-led committee established to provide equity and transparency in funding related to student organizations.
Leaders of Registered Student Organizations are required to complete annual registration training in the fall and a refresher training in the spring. Training topics cover fiscal responsibility, event planning, risk management and compliance trainings.
Collaborative Initiatives
CSL partnered with the Title IX Office for hazing education to provide educational trainings around hazing and Title IX implications to register ed student organization leaders.
CSL staff presented six career readiness microcredentials — Milestone 2 programs — enrolling more than 30 students in the path ways. The programs cover ed topics such as interprofessional teamwork, leadership, inter cultural fluency and communication. These programs were offer ed face to face and virtually
The CSL team collaborated with student support offices across campus to host resource fairs that provide students an opportunity to meet with various partners that holistically work to ensure student success.
