Signature Programs and Services
The Care Team serves as an inter disciplinary team designed to support students by connecting them with resources and serving as an on-campus source of support. The team operates in a non-clinical, case-management capacity to assist students in navigating through challenges, often incorporating HSC and community resources.
HSC strives to uphold the high academic, professional and community standards of the university while supporting students to develop their ethical decision-making skills. To this end, HSC has adopted the Student Code of Conduct and Civility policy to govern student behavior. T he policy is educational in nature and designed to help students understand HSC’s expectations and accept responsibility for their actions.
HSC’s on-site fitness center is a facility designed to meet the needs of students, alumni, faculty, staff and community members. It includes group exercise and personal training offerings, in addition to industry-standard exercise equipment.
Be|Well is a part of a standard regional re-accreditation process by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges. The program is a collaborative effort with academic departments and offices across campus to integrate holistic wellness into the fabric of HSC through educational and programmatic means.
HSC recognizes that for students to be well and succeed academically, their basic needs must be addressed. As a result, the Division of Student and Academic Affairs established a student pantry on campus to assist students impacted by food insecurity. The OCC operates the main food pantry in the Student Service Center and a satellite location in the library.
OCC provides programming designed to meet the community’s needs, in addition to satisfying compliance- and needs-related legislation such as the Drug-Free Schools and Communities Act and S.B. 1624.
The Student Emergency Fund provides emergency financial assistance to enrolled students who are having temporary financial hardships because of unforeseen or uncontrollable circumstances.
The Path ways program allows students to gain insight and perspective on decision-making and professionalism issues in a reflective, educational, 1-1 coaching environment. The Path ways program is sometimes used in the conduct process for additional learning and growth when the Student Code of Conduct and Civility may have been violated.
Collaborative Initiatives
The OCC is responsible for the creation and distribution of the biennial Drug and Alcohol Awareness and Prevention report, as mandated by the Drug-Free Schools and Communities Act. This involves the coordination of both the DAAPP Compliance Committee and the DAAPP Programming Team. Both groups are interdisciplinary in nature and work to ensure data is collected and programs are implemented to promote well-being, safety and compliance.
The OCC manages the Student Emergency Fund in partnership with the Financial Aid Office and Student Finance. This partnership is critical in ensuring that money is distributed in a timely manner in accordance with financial regulations, while also providing an avenue to ensure that students’ basic needs are met.
Be|Well Week is a week dedicated to student well-being topics. Various campus partners and staff have combined to facilitate sessions on financial wellness, thriving with a disability, sleep health, cultural awareness and more.
