MPH COMPETENCIES
(Adopted from From Association of Schools of Public Health Education Committee, Master Degree in Public Health Core Competency Project, Version 2.3, May 2007)All students in the MPH Program are expected to master a set of public health competencies that are used to evaluate public health knowledge, skills and practice. The competencies that have been selected by the UNTHSC CPH are consistent with the recommendations of the Association of Schools of Public Health (www.asph.org), and address the five core areas of biostatistics, epidemiology, environmental health science, health policy and management, and social and behavioral sciences, as well as those specific to their chosen concentration area. MPH students will master the competencies through various activities including coursework, seminars and practice experience. Upon graduation they will be able to demonstrate broad knowledge in the core areas of public health and apply public health perspectives, knowledge, skills and practice in their areas of specialization.
