Summary for Poster:
Recent data shows that Primary Care provides for almost one-third of all mental health visits in the United States. While mental health care increases, Psychiatry access and psychiatric residencies struggle to keep pace. There is a need for primary care enhanced training in management and care of the patient with mental health needs. While many opportunities exist for psychiatric training, much of the training is based in well supported psychiatric centers. There is a need for a primary care oriented education and curriculum for outpatient clinical management of mental health in conjunction with the many other co-morbidities that exist in a primary care practice.
