Accreditation
The UNTHSC Animal Care and Use Program is a voluntary member of AAALAC International, and is subject to a rigorous accreditation inspection/review. The program has enjoyed FULL ACCREDITATION since February 8, 1985. In addition, as a USDA licensed research institution, the facility and program undergoes unscheduled USDA site visits and inspections. In the most recent inspections, which are conducted every three years, the Animal Care and Use program at UNTHSC has been commended for “providing and maintaining an exemplary program of laboratory animal care and use…”
AAALAC International accreditation is recommended by major funding associations such as the American Heart Association, and is required by some federal funders such as the U.S. Department of Defense.
