What is your major?

I’m doing an MS in Biomedical Sciences and specializing in NK-Cell Tumor Immunology.

What is a fun fact about you?

I love traveling and hiking. I traveled to 10 states so far and I’m planning on visiting as many as I can during my stay in the US.

What is an identity you’re proud to share with others at HSC?

As an Egyptian, we don’t fit under a certain race or ethnicity which can be confusing to others sometimes. This tells you, you can’t always fit people into boxes when it comes to identity. They are just who they are.

What attracted you to HSC?

I’m a Fulbright Scholar and landing at HSC was part of the selection process. However, I chose HSC in the first place as I wanted to pursue a degree in immunology and immunotherapy there.

How have you gotten involved on campus?

I’m currently the president of the International Student Association. I’m trying to help the incoming international students with the big move from their country to the US and provide support as much as I can since I’ve been there. It’s nice to have someone to reach out to during the process.

What advice would you give to a student who is looking to make the most of their time at HSC?

I think the advise I would stress on and keep reminding myself with is that school-life balance is not a luxury, it’s a necessity for mental health.

How has your HSC experience been so far?

I’ve been learning a lot ever since I came here both in the academic world and by encountering different cultures. I’ve learnt a lot about Americans, the American culture and the South through being here in Texas. I’m also getting to know myself more and more as the days pass. I believe that people learn the most about themselves when they encounter people from different cultures and backgrounds, which is why I love traveling and exploring new places.

What are your plans after you finish at HSC?

I’m still not sure what’s going to happen after I graduate but I’m considering taking some time off to travel or continue doing research and getting another degree in Immunology.
