Zoe Hendricks

Second-year TCOM Student

What is your major?

I am a second-year student at the Texas College of Osteopathic Medicine.

What is a fun fact about you?

I backpacked over 200 miles on the Camino de Santiago trek through France and Spain.

What is an identity you’re proud to share with others at HSC?

I identify as a medical student with a learning disability. HSC’s Office of Disability Access and the community of TCOM have fully supported me in this challenging education path. I would like to encourage all students to seek support and guidance with any difficulties they may face, no matter what the challenge may be.

What attracted you to HSC?

HSC and TCOM attracted me with their true sense of community and family. I feel so supported and encouraged by all my faculty, peers, and other programs here at HSC. We take care of each other!

How have you gotten involved on campus?

My favorite activity that I have gotten involved with at HSC has been volunteering with the Pediatric Mobile Clinic. On the clinic bus, I have the opportunity to practice the medicine I am learning in class. I get to give vaccinations, assist in giving well-child or acute illness exams, and be an advocate for the children in our community.

What advice would you give to a student who is looking to make the most of their time at HSC?

My advice is to take a step back and look at how far you have come in life and your education. The majority of the students at HSC have been dreaming of finally getting into their desired schooling for years. We are finally here and pursuing our dream professions. Hold on to that passion and know that you are fulfilling your dream!

How has your HSC experience been so far?

My experience at HSC has been nothing but incredible. Incredibly challenging, but incredibly fulfilling! I am fulfilling my dream of becoming a doctor. I learn an absurd amount about our bodies every day and then I get to use that knowledge to positively impact the lives of others. I truly feel like I have a family here at HSC.

What are your plans after you finish at HSC?

When I graduate from HSC as a doctor, I hope to pursue a residency in pediatrics. I imagine myself as a general pediatrician one day. But no matter what kind of doctor I end up as, I know I will be a life-long learner and patient advocate.
